HEARTSTRINGS

Tenaciously guarded and protected
Hidden away in the deepest parts
If any get close, they be few and selected
So vulnerable, this Heart of hearts

But even from its cloistered towers
even from sub-basement cells,
the strong aroma of its many flowers
and the sound of its songs rises and swells

Thus with caution-wrought disguises
It is cloaked to avoid discovery’s glare
But the fathomless mother of surprises
Is subject to get loose anywhere

At a stirring sonata, exciting speech
At the sight of the sun setting in the west
Or a miracle now within someone’s reach,
And suddenly it rises in your breast

Touched by the deepest of life’s issues
By gratitude, faith, love, pain and pleasure
One cause of the brainchild, facial tissues
A God-given and distinctly human treasure

The Operations Center of the female mind
Yet, for men, a wilderness oft unexplored
There abide affections of the deepest kind
Too wonderful and numerous to be ignored

Much more than morals, conscience or hormones
More than compassion… or sensation rare
Deep in the soul, past flesh and bones
Heartstrings. Fragile. Handle with care!

"But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me." (Psa 13:5-6)

I DON’T LIKE BLUE…

I don’t like blue...
for the way that I feel when no one understands
when life’s twists and turns seem to make even
my guardian angels throw up their hands.

I don’t like yellow...
for the color of fear that’s trying to swallow me whole
that creeps up my back and will cut me no slack
as it tries to sweep over my soul.

And I don’t like gray...
when it fogs up my day with great, dark threatening clouds
it’s the color of old, of dust and of mold;
not to mention tombstones and shrouds.

I do like black...
as in -tie, patent leather, -lace, skin, light and “texas tea”
And I really like pink
in the rose, babies’ toes, cotton candy and sunsets at sea.

I do like white...
it’s the color of light, of cotton, and of morning’s dew.
But because it’s the color of love’s sad departure
I can’t help it... I don’t like blue.

LOVE ME NOT UNTIL

Love me… Love me thoroughly
My Dearest, love me always
Love me unconditionally
through the dark night, and beyond the day
Love me through life’s variables
as an act of desire and will
Live like you love me… But oh, Beloved
Love me not “until”.

Don’t love me only, don’t love me if
and don’t just love me when
But love me with sincerity of heart
Let me feel your love time and again
And should Life take some crazy turn
and change what we expected
Or should a deed cause love to collapse
With diligence, let’s resurrect it

Love me in your dreams and fantasies
Be there for me. I’ll do the same
Let’s not think of “our thing” as disposable
Let’s not treat Love like it’s a game
But let our love be rich and full
Never allowing Indifference’s chill
Love me in and out, up and down, and throughout
But love me not “until”.

GOD IS MINDFUL OF YOU

Life’s moments can be puzzling
Things happen... You don’t know why
Seems your hopes the devil’s been guzzling
Now your well is drained and dry

You lift tear drenched cheeks to Heaven
Your heart heaves within your chest
              Its fifty minutes past eleven
                     Yet no relief is manifest.

But, God sees you in all Life’s moments
Your anguish touches Him on high
He sends angels to your defense
and although you may have to cry

He will heal your broken-heartedness
He knows what you’re going through
Do not abandon your faith or your quest
He cares! God is mindful of you.

“But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my Lord hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” (Isa 49:14-16)

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

T’was the night before Christmas
and traveling far
They went up to Judea
without train, plane or car
A tedious journey
for one great with child
But the taxation decree
pressed them on through the wild

T’was the twilight of Christmas
from the Inn turned away
They found rest in the stable
with livestock and hay
Then, in timeless moments
the Heavens kissed Earth
In fulfillment of prophecy
Came the Christ child’s birth

Tis the Season of Christmas
two thousand years hence
We were blessed with a Saviour
Nothing’s been the same since
If you don’t yet know Jesus
by any more than His Name
Get to know Him for Life’s sake
‘Cause that’s why He came!

“I am come that ye might have life, and that more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
